SYTYCD Season 7: Top 11 Perform
69
Judging tonight were Adam Shankman, Nigel Lythgoe and Mia Michaels. I'm wondering if these are going to be the permanents for the duration of the show. I didn't catch that. I know Adam is staying on, I guess we'll have to see about the third spot.
Tonight the each contestant danced with an all-star he or she picked from a hat in a style, you guessed it, also picked from a hat. The audience as able to learn a bit more about the contestants in his or her "something America doesn't know about you" segment just prior to the performance.
Take a Deep Breath and Watch...
The Recap
Billy Bell likes DIY projects, and is sporting new facial hair this week. It really distracted me. His partner was Lauren in a Tyce
routine, and his "cutesy" face was a little too perfect for the footloose theme. Billy needs to
fill in the blanks according to Adam. He needs to give us “what’s in
between.”
Cristina Santana auditioned for a singing competition in Mexico. She was partnered with Mark for a Sonya
routine. Supposedly, Cristina was the snake, and Mark was her prey, but the chemistry seemed reversed. However, she held her own and showed some contemporary technique
for a salsa dancer.
Jose Ruiz practices yoga daily. He picked a Tabitha and Napoleon piece with Comfort. Jose was a beast, literally, but he needs to bring some power moves and work on maintaining character.
Adechike Torbert went to LaGuardia High School, the "Fame school," and apparently, do did Tyce. Travis Wall choreographed the
routine Adechike dance with all-star Kathryn. It was hard for me to watch him, even though I knew I was
supposed to. She had show much sexual energy, but he just didn’t have the
chemistry despite his technique.
Melinda Sullivan played a character on As the World Turns and is a musician. She danced a Jive routine with Pasha. Seemed like
a good ballroom style for a tapper because of the footwork, but
the judges thought she stunk. I enjoyed her character presence, except when she stuck her tongue out halfway through.
Alex Wong plays piano and sings. His partner was Allison with a Sonya Tayeh piece. Obviously, Alex has insane technique.
He was full engaged, which was an issue of his previously. When the two should have been, they were in complete unison. I had chills. Nigel had tears in his eyes and
was covering his mouth with both hands when the camera cut to him. Mia called it the best SYTYCD piece to
date. View on this page, if you'd like. I highly recommend it.
Alexie Agdeppa was a Star Search contestant and already judged by Adam. She performed a Nappy-Tabs piece with
Twitch. I freaking love Twitch. Adam made a good point saying he was “won over by charisma.” Alexie was very
cute but didn’t hit the moves. She did have swag like Twitch.
Lauren Froderman loves working with kindergartners. Her partner was Ade with a Mandy Moore number. She had no sexiness where she was supposed to exude it. Just a
little to smiley for what the routine was supposed to be.
Kent Boyd was homecoming king, the best out of 14. He danced ballroom with Anya. He’s got great hips. Who knew?
Ashley Galvan does crazy voices, and demonstrated a robotic one she calls, "galvatron". Hers was a Tyce piece with Neil. I believed his emotion, but
not really her. She looked pained, but not necessarily in transcendent
love. Mia called her a "little bunny.” Not really seeing that one, but alright.
Robert Roland wanted to be a pro baseball player, but the love of dance took over. Courtney was his partner for a Sean Cheesman
African jazz piece. These two were a great couple. Nigel called him a“dark horse.” Adam named him one of the best
contemporary dancers on the show. Last hub, I said I didn’t know him, but I'm happy we've been introduced. It was a refreshing end to the show, especially his growling match with Mia.
Who's in the Bottom Three?
I think Adechike, Melinda and maybe Ashley. We'll find out tonight, and everyone can say, "I told you so," if I'm wrong. Smile. Wink. Etc.
